Abstract:

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of various starvation and refeeding periods on growth, feed utilization and body composition in Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) with an average initial weight of 30.26±1.4 g (mean±SE). The fish were exposed to three different regimes: the control group fed twice daily to apparent satiation throughout the experiment (C), the first group starved for 4 days and refed for 16 days, this cycle was repeated two times (T1) and the second group starved for 8 days and refed for 32 days (T2). At the end of experiment, there were not any significant differences in growth and feeding performance among different treatments (p < /em>>0.05). Daily feed intake was significantly higher in the deprived fish than in the control fish (p < /em>>0.05). Starvation had a significant effect on protein content on one sampling date during the experimental period; protein content in T2 on day 8 was significantly lower compared to the control (p < /em>

Asian sea bass, Lates calcarifer

Lates calcarifer, commonly known as the Asian sea bass or barramundi, is an 16 interesting species that has great aquaculture potential in Asia including Malaysia and also 17 Australia. We have investigated essential fatty acid metabolism in this species, focusing on 18 the endogenous highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) synthesis pathway using both 19 biochemical and molecular biological appro...

EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT TEMPERATURE AND FEEDING RATE ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE, BODY COMPOSITION AND BLOOD PARAMETERS OF ASIAN SEA BASS (LATES CALCARIFER)

This study aimed to investigate the effects of different temperatures (20, 27 and 33 °C) and two feeding rates (2.5 % biomass per day and satiation) on growth performance, body composition, hematology and blood biochemistry of Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer). For this purpose, 8 fish with an average initial weight of 99.55 ± 0.24 g were randomly transported to 200 liters tanks (6 treatments w...

Osmoregulatory Parameters of Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) during adaptation in Freshwater

In the present study, the adaptation of Asian sea bass (lates calcarifer) was investigated in fresh water using physiological parameters of osmoregulation including: the plasma levels of thyroid hormones and cortisol, gill Na+/ K+-ATPase activity and plasma concentrations of sodium and chloride. For this purpose, 60 fish were distributed in three 300 L tanks with a density of 20 fish per tank. ...

Effects of probiotic mixtures in the diet on growth performance, hematological indices, immunity and antioxidant capacity of Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) juveniles

In the present study, the effects of different probiotics mixtures on growth performance, hematology and antioxidant capacity of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) juveniles (30 g). In this study, three bacterial mixtures were used that were isolated from the native aquatic species of Khuzestan and the South of the country, which include: the first group includes different strains of Lactobacillu...
